Tsveta Sendova invited to the White House's Office of Science and Technology Policy "Math Matters" meeting

Tsveta Sendova, co-director of the Center for Instructional Mentoring at MSU, is one of a handful of mathematics educators nationally to be invited to the White House's Office of Science and Technology Policy "Math Matters" meeting on Sept. 8, 2016

Sasha Volberg named Simons Fellow in Mathematics

Sasha Volberg has been named a 2017-18 Simons Fellow in Mathematics as recognition for his work on Harmonic measures, singular integrals, and geometric measure theory. These highly competitive awards recognize excellence in the mathematical and physical sciences.

Thomas Grubb Awarded Goldwater Scholarship

Thomas Grubb has won a prestigious Goldwater Scholarship for his work with Prof. Bruce Sagan on combinatorial pattern avoidance in set partitions and restricted growth functions. There are 250 Goldwater Scholarships awarded annually to sophomores and juniors across mathematics and science in the US.

PSM Recognition for the Master of Science in Industrial Mathematics at MSU

The PSM National Office announced the recognition for the Professional Science Master’s Program in Industrial Mathematics (aka the Master of Science in Industrial Mathematics) at Michigan State University in October 2014. The program was granted the PSM affiliation status from October 28, 2014 through October 27, 2019 as the first program in the Group 1, Cycle 1 nationwide because it fully meets the guidelines for the PSM re-affiliation.

Taylor Joseph Awarded Leroy Augenstein Memorial Scholarship

Taylor Joseph, a mathematics major, has been awarded the Leroy Augenstein Memorial Scholarship from the College of Natural Science.

Dr. Jeanne Wald Receives Awards

Dr. Jeanne Wald has received the Inspirational Woman of the Year Award for professional acheivement, as well as the Honors College Award for Distinguished Contributions to Honors Students. The award is given to a faculty or staff member who 'who has made exceptional contributions to Honors College students through teaching, advising, or mentoring.'

2015 Ronald H. and Mary E. Simon Actuarial Science Lecture

More than 100 people attended the fourth Ronald H. and Mary E. Simon Actuarial Science Lecture on Nov. 13 to hear Stephen Mildenhall, Global CEO of Analytics for Aon, speak on the theory and practice of risk management.
